Our client is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment Attorney with ideally 5-7 years of experience to join their dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity for a highly-motivated attorney who is looking to take their career to the next level. The ideal candidate will have expertise in both advising clients on day-to-day labor and employment matters as well as representing them in complex litigation. Key responsibilities:
- Employee/Plaintiff Representation: Represent employees in disputes related to discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, wage and hour claims, retaliation, and other workplace issues
- Counsel clients on their legal rights, develop case strategies, and manage phases of litigation, including drafting complaints, conducting discovery, and handling pre-trial motions
- Advocate for clients in hearings, trials, and mediations, ensuring effective representation in court and before administrative agencies
- Employer Defense and Counsel: Defend current employer clients in employment-related claims such as wrongful termination, harassment, wage and hour violations, and discrimination
- Advise employers on legal compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, such as FLMA, FLSA, ADA, and Title VII
- Review workplace policies, employee handbooks, and guidelines to mitigate risks and enhance organizational compliance
- Provide strategic guidance on internal investigations, terminations, performance management, and dispute resolution
- Strategic Counsel and Risk Mitigation Offer proactive legal counsel to employers to help them avoid litigation, including advising on personnel decisions, employee discipline, and compliance with labor regulations
- Assist employers in navigating complex labor and employment challenges, balancing the needs of the business while ensuring legal and ethical compliance
- Litigation Management Manage cases from initial intake through resolution, including trial prep, discovery, depositions, and settlement negotiations
- Prepare and argue motions, and represent clients at hearings, arbitrations, and mediations
- Work collaboratively with senior attorneys to develop legal strategies and achieve favorable outcomes for clients
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school
- 5-7 years of experience in L&E law, with a focus on both counseling and litigation
- Proven ability to manage client relationships and maintain strong communication with stakeholders
- Experience representing clients across diverse industries
- An entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in business development and growing a practice
- Active admission to the state bar in Maine
Salary is commensurate with experience. $120,000+ base salary plus VERY good bonus structure. This is a potential partner track role.
