Patent Associate - Philadelphia


A leading, award-winning law firm is actively seeking a talented and motivated Patent Associate to join its prestigious Intellectual Property Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic individual looking to grow within a top-tier firm while working on complex and innovative IP matters.


Responsibilities:


  • Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in a variety of technical fields, including mechanical, electrical, and software-related technologies.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients on patentability, patent portfolio management, and patent infringement issues.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and clients to develop strong, effective patent strategies.
  • Conduct patent searches and analyse prior art to support application filings and patentability assessments.
  • Represent clients in communication with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign patent offices.
  • Assist in litigation support and patent litigation matters, as necessary.
  • Keep clients informed and provide expert advice on patent-related matters, including licensing, patent disputes, and strategic planning.


Qualifications:


  • 2-4 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with a focus on mechanical, electrical, and/or software-related technologies.
  • Superior academic credentials from a respected law school.
  • Admission to a state bar is required; registration to practice before the USPTO is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of patent law and procedures, including international patent law.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented approach to client service and legal challenges.
  • A technical background or experience in engineering, software, or a related field is highly desirable.
