Access Intelligence, a leading B2B Media and Events company, is looking for a savvy and smart Reporter to cover the RadWaste beat for the Exchange Monitor brand. The RadWaste reporter for the Exchange Monitor is responsible for covering nuclear waste and nuclear power-plant decommissioning for daily and weekly newsletters read by experts in industry and government. The main responsibility will be covering what the federal Department of Energy (DOE), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and nuclear power plant owners are doing about the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle — nuclear material that’s already been used to generate electricity, and nuclear power plants that need to be safely torn down. Exchange Monitor does not cover nuclear energy or uranium markets, but a reporter who can keep the back end in frame will find opportunities to write about technology and energy.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Write daily news stories daily on the RadWaste beat, and other Exchange Monitor beats, as needed.
- Help produce daily and weekly newsletters. Assist managing editor in developing new editorial products, forums and concepts.
- Assist events team by suggesting potential speakers and topics for Exchange Monitor events.
- Travel to, and cover, industry events, and especially Exchange Monitor events.
- Represent all brands and ancillary products at industry events and more informal get-togethers.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Four-year degree in Journalism, English, Communications or other relevant field or commensurate experience.
- One to three years of daily and weekly publishing/magazine experience.
- Experience in industry trade press is a plus. Familiarity with Congress and federal rulemaking, and prior experience covering nuclear issues will help.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a daily and weekly deadline-oriented environment.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Experience working in or covering the aerospace and defense industries, and associated technologies, is another plus.
- A Twitter account, or the willingness to create one.
- Proficiency with desktop publishing and word processing software. Knowledge of graphic design a plus.
OTHER KEY ATTRIBUTES:
- Flexibility to change your approach to the beat and the job as needed. Seeks continuous mastery of new technical and business knowledge and encourages the same in others.
- Interacts professionally and appropriately within a variety of cultures and situations while attending trade shows, conferences, and performing other company-related assignments.
- Clearly articulates, presents, and promotes ideas and issues before various audiences in professional settings.
- Demonstrates the ability to identify and solve problems quickly, decisively, and independently.
- Shares information, cooperates with others, and is comfortable participating as a part of a team.
