Summary

The Supply Chain Manager will manage the flow of goods, resources, and information required by the supply chain to ensure that critical processes run effectively and achieve organizational goals and performance KPIs. The Manager will bring a strategic approach to optimizing supply chain operations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, improve on-time deliveries, and reduce cost and forecast demand.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Under minimal supervision, the Supply Chain Manager must be able to perform a variety of job duties, including but not limited to:


  • Lead coordination of activities with procurement, production, inventory control, distribution, transportation, and other functions to optimize the supply chain and ensure compliance with aerospace and defense industry standards (e.g., AS9100, FAR/DFARS).
  • Enhance business processes through data-driven analysis to drive improved on-time-delivery, drive profitability through cost management, and increase higher service levels to customers through faster response times
  • Monitor suppliers and service providers to ensure quality, on-time delivery, and performance while fostering long-term relationships with key partners.
  • Lead strategically critical projects, delivering exceptional value to the company through total cost reduction, supplier consolidation, and supplier quality management, tailored to the aerospace and defense sectors.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, industry certifications, and corporate policies related to purchasing and subcontract activities.
  • Develop purchasing specifications based on program requirements and functional needs, ensuring alignment with aerospace and defense contractual obligations.
  • Determine purchase requirements and generate or adjust purchase orders for sourced goods, considering lead times and supply chain constraints.
  • Monitor inventory levels against sales forecasts, customer orders, and safety stock requirements to support high-stakes projects and military contracts.
  • Coordinate and lead continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers, with a focus on metrics such as on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement strategies for raw materials, finished goods, and WIP components to support the complex demands of aerospace and defense manufacturing.
  • Source and procure machinery, equipment, tools, raw materials, packaging, and services critical for operation, ensuring compliance with strict defense contracting requirements.
  • Review proposals, negotiate prices, select or recommend suppliers, analyze trends, follow up on placed orders, verify delivery, approve payments, and maintain detailed records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise employees within the Supply Chain department including warehouse management, logistics, and procurement, ensuring team alignment with organizational goals and industry compliance requirements.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, with a focus on mentoring and developing team members.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.


  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or BS) in Business administration or Engineering in a related field.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) + years of Supply Chain Management and Procurement experience in an Engineer-to-order manufacturing, OEM, aerospace, or defense environment, with at least 3 years in a management or senior buyer capacity.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal and aerospace materials preferred.


Required Skills:

  • Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, & percentages.
  • Other Abilities: Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite. Must possess thorough knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic. Must have knowledge to apply general use of databases/spreadsheets. Ability to complete the planning of workflow and meetings. Proficient knowledge of Lockheed EMAPS. Experience with Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) operations. Knowledge of industry suppliers, product, and manufacturing capabilities. Strong negotiation/contracting, analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to compile and present data in a format that facilitates information sharing and decision making. Knowledge of major aerospace prime customer requirements. Expertise in supply chain principles specific to aerospace and defense, including supplier risk management, offset agreements, and export control compliance (e.g., ITAR)


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand 4 to 6 hours a day. Must be able to work with their hands, arms and be extremely accurate. Must be able to walk and sit on a regular basis. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis, with assistance.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving high-speed machinery and mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. outside weather conditions, machine oils, metal fillings, acetone, paints, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock or vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud while in the production environment.


Travel:

  • Up to 30% travel to Southern California
