About the Role
The Forensic DNA Analyst plays a critical role in Othram’s mission by focusing on accessioning casework, DNA extraction, and serology. This role ensures high standards of scientific rigor and compliance, working within ISO 17025 requirements to deliver accurate and timely results for our partners and clients.
What You Get to Do Every Day
- Adhere to ISO 17025 requirements, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Perform DNA quantification and other quality control assays.
- Conduct serology and DNA extraction from various sample types.
- Properly receive, secure, process, and return evidence while maintaining chain-of-custody documentation.
- Participate in the development, validation, and implementation of new analytical techniques.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Monitor and maintain laboratory supplies and reagent inventory.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information.
- Provide expert witness testimony in court when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Role
Required Competencies and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, statistics and/or population genetics, forensic sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, or related field.
- A minimum of 1+ years of forensic laboratory experience.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Competencies and Experience:
- Previous experience working in an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory.
- Proficiency with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Familiarity with forensic genetic genealogy workflows.
- A minimum of 2-6 years of laboratory experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in a forensic human DNA laboratory.
- A Degree in Forensics or a related field
