Your role at Clorox:

The Brita team lives its mission of enabling better water for people and the planet. A huge aspect of delivering on this promise is through packaging and product innovation to enable our consumers to obtain this water when and how they need it. The product and packaging are essential vehicles to communicate both our values and value to the consumer. The Brita R&D team is seeking a consumer obsessed product development expert to join our agile group of scientists.

As a Research & Development Product Developer for Brita, you will be part of a team responsible for the technical product development and scale-up of Brita products (filters, pitchers, faucet mounts). You will collaborate with Packaging development counterparts, cross-functional colleagues domestically and internationally, and external supply partners to develop and recommend options to bring ideas to life. You will have a variety of assignments within the organization across new product innovation, filter formulation and claims improvements, optimization, cost savings, and sustainability.


This position will be located in our Pleasanton, CA office, and the individual will be expected to be in the office 3 days a week. Relocation assistance will be offered.


In this role, you will:

  • Represent one R&D voice balancing risk, impact, speed, and decision-making complexity
  • Lead the execution of Product Development for projects from concept through development applying technical leadership and partnering with subject matter experts, cross-functional partners and project managers.
  • Translate consumer needs into technical product specifications and processing standards
  • Design and execute technical testing to converge on and validate product design and performance, including developing new test methods and demos with support as necessary.
  • Analyze and interpret data to drive technical understanding, meet project targets and objectives, problem solve, and make recommendations that drive efficiency, knowledge, and manage/elevate risk.
  • Lead technical risk assessments and mitigation plans.
  • Develop and lead manufacturing implementation of innovations with domestic and international manufacturers and technology partners
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and engineering teams to ensure consistent communication, successful start-ups, define any new capital requirement, and influence future capabilities.
  • Closely track external industry technology development and trends to incorporate into business growth plans.
  • Demonstrate a mentality of constant improvement and willingness to challenge past ways of working to drive efficiency in your work and presenting means of improving the work of the broader technical team
  • Establish and maintain strong technical organization through knowledge management and documentation
  • Contribute to a robust intellectual property portfolio and strategy
  • Visit suppliers, Clorox plants, and external manufacturers (some being international) to work with them closely to enable new product launch. Travel expected around 10%.


What we look for:

  • Minimum 3 years of product and/or process development experience preferably in consumer products or injection molded durable goods or applicable field.
  • Bachelors or Masters in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or time in applicable role(s) after college
  • High energy, positive drive, and commitment in setting and meeting aggressive goals and seeking out new opportunities.
  • Strong technical curiosity and creative problem-solving skills with a record of implemented innovative technical solutions.
  • Critical thinking to adapt to formulation and manufacturing challenges and using innovative approaches to overcome those challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment, both internal and external to Clorox.
  • Ability to influence others, selling ideas to stakeholders and encouraging team direction.
  • Capability to work independently and implement multiple projects in a timely manner.
  • Effective leadership to work in a collaborative team environment, both internal and external to Clorox.

Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.


–Zone A: $86,600 - $161,900
