Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Materials Scientist. The Materials Scientist will be responsible for laboratory operations, researching and developing new materials, conducting laboratory analysis using SEM and other micro-chemical techniques, and interpreting results to provide solutions for clients. The Materials Engineer position is primarily on-site and may involve working at one or multiple sites.
Primary Responsibilities
Take safe lab operations in daily work.
Client Communication (20%): Initiate projects and generate material workflows. Develop and maintain relationships with clients for business development.
Laboratory Workflow Management (60%): Oversee the entire workflow from receiving samples to planning and executing tests, and reporting results. Prepare tailored reports using MS WORD and/or PowerPoint. Work independently with minimal supervision to complete projects and reports.
Laboratory Maintenance (10-20%): Perform routine maintenance and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment. Maintain a tidy and organized workspace.
Quality System (10%): Maintenance of lab quality and data system. Author of quality manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other technical documentations.
Training and supervision (5-10%): Mentoring and teaching of lab analysts, including colleague students and interns.
Core Qualifications
M.S./Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Geology/Earth Science, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.
0-5 years of industrial experience.
Training and hands-on experiences in metal materials and metallurgy sample preparation (cutting, mounting, polishing) is a plus.
Hands-on experience with SEM and/or EDS equipment is preferred.
Advanced skills in FTIR and/or ATR are preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work effectively.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented and organized approach to work.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Qualifications
Experience in material science, general analytical chemistry, polymers, and problem- solving using multiple techniques is a plus.
Experience with some or all techniques of ICP-OES, XRF, GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, LIBS is a plus.
Strong laboratory skills and knowledge of materials science. Other Requirements
This position is a full-time, on-site role with regular hours and requires 5-10% local travel.
