Position Summary: The ASC Operating Room and PACU nurses work collaboratively with the physicians and the anesthesia health care providers to determine patient needs undergoing surgical procedures and to assume responsibility for patient care, document and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing actions and ensure a safe environment of care. The nurse will be knowledgeable about the scrub and circulation duties performed in the ASC.

- Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills including prioritizing and delegation of patient care activities
- Recognize and report signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect

- Assessment of pain upon admission and through the stay

- Utilize the nursing process along with AORN standards to ensure all of the patient safety goals are incorporated into the care of the patient
- Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique
- Applies principles of asepsis, maintains sterile field technique at the sterile field, assist with care of equipment and supplies after the surgical procedure is completed
- Identifies emergency situations and institutes corrective actions in a calm and efficient manner
- Maintains organizational skill and manual dexterity in the economy of time, motion and supply utilization in a safe, efficient manner
- Completes documentation in an accurate and timely manner
- Provides support and comfort to preoperative patients
- Demonstrates proficiency in care of patients receiving conscious sedation
- Assists physician during procedures; carries out physician orders
- Makes telephone calls to patients pre-operatively for pre-admission directives and post-operatively for follow-up care
- Other duties as assigned
Work Relationship and Scope: The Registered Nurses works closely with all staff and doctors; reporting to the ASC Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Vocational/Technical Degree as a Registered Nurse is required
- Current RN License in the state of Wisconsin
- BLS and CPR certification is required
- ACLS certification is preferred; must be obtained within one year of employment
- Knowledge of state, federal, JCAHO regulations
- Strong communication skills; verbal and written
- Ability to develop good working relationships with physicians and staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations
- Strong aptitude with computer software and typing skills
- Must be out-going and cordial; demonstrated through solid customer service skills/experience
- Must be flexible for changing job requirements
Work Conditions: Work is generally performed at the main clinic; 800 First Street, Wausau, WI. Travel to other office locations may be necessary. Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (40 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
