Job Description

Job Title: Floor Planner

Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Director of Category Analytics


Position Overview: Utilize Relex Floor Planning software to create and maintain precise store-specific floorplans that maximize the highest sales per selling area. Work with merchants, space planners, and construction teams to optimize departments' and categories' position, performance, and layout.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development of floor plans, elevations, fixtures, and merchandise plans, as they relate to the development of store environments based on Vallarta Supermarkets criteria and new and developing trends.
  • The role will provide fixture, and merchandise design plans and elevations based on provided criteria, as well as the Store Design Guidelines.
  • Generate initial ‘test fits’ identifying opportunities/liabilities for each space.
  • Development of new, prototype fixture design concepts.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to plan and communicate new store developments and updates.
  • Ensure Designs incorporate all current design thoughts and callouts from internal partners.
  • The Store Planner can perform multiple tasks within the store planning discipline.


Knowledge and Skills

  • High-level understanding of retail design requirements.
  • Knowledge of design trends and new products.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and ever-changing priorities.
  • Ability to work and be successful in a fast-paced work environment.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Interior Design or related area, or equivalent Space Planning experience
  • 3+ years of practical space planning experience, preferably in retail.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD with the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Commute to stores, as needed, to manage projects, written policies, and procedures. Flexibility in schedule to work extended hours, nights, overnights, including some weekends,

to complete the job.

This is a full-time exempt-level position; the schedule would be based on business necessity. Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. Monday to Friday (available to a flexible schedule based on needs). May require occasional weekend or after-hours work to accommodate vendor schedules or urgent procurement needs. Commute to stores, as needed. Travel required in California (25%).


  • Physical Demands Will be required to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. May also have to do some light lifting of supplies and materials occasionally.
