Location : Anchorage, Alaska *5 days onsite

Job Description

An employer is looking for a Database Administrator to design, construct, and support databases. Your role involves installing, upgrading, and maintaining database software, optimizing performance, developing standards and recovery procedures, and researching new technologies. You will serve as the primary database coordinator and a key member of project teams for application development, upgrades, and changes.

Must Haves:

  • Minimum of three years of experience supporting a relational database management system using Structured Query Language (SQL) and fourth-generation languages.
  • Two years must have been in Oracle version 7.3 or higher
  • Expertise in Windows applications development software , such as Microsoft Access, Visual Basic, Approach for Windows, Progress, or Powerbuilder.
  • Proficiency with desktop computers using DOS/Windows operating systems.
  • Unix and DOS scripting skills using Korn shell, Perl, AWK, or other appropriate scripting or shell languages.
  • Proficiency with UNIX operating systems and exposure to the Windows NT network operating system.
  • Analytical Skills :
  • Ability to perform cost and benefit analysis for proposed projects.
  • Proven ability to create quality project proposals.

Responsibilities and Authorities

  • Controls and monitors system-level and database owner access to enterprise production databases.
  • Creates and maintains a high-level data model for all networked databases.
  • Directs, coordinates, creates and maintains database elements in all production networked databases.
  • Performs SQL database programming to provide data to front-end applications.
  • Responsible for database backup and recovery, scheduling, and disaster prevention.
  • Responsible for adequate data retention on the databases.
  • Monitors database performance and capacities and optimizes them for efficiency. Coordinates with Systems Programmers, Analyst Programmers and Network Administrators when necessary.
  • Provides in-depth technical support for resolving database-related problems.
  • Develops and maintains naming standards, in-house educational material and language interfaces to database as necessary.
  • Plans and implements installation and updates to the database software.
  • Acts as primary contact between the company and database software vendors for problem resolution, support and maintenance issues.
  • Maintains operations-run documentation.
  • Provides cost and benefit analysis for proposed database-related upgrades, projects and support tasks, as required.
  • Provides application and platform-based impact assessment for proposed upgrade projects and support tasks, as required.
