This is a Full-Time in-office job in Seattle (near U Village) to start March 2025.
POSITION SUMMARY
The CRD Architectural Designer will combine technical expertise and design creativity to produce beautiful residential renovations and remodels for our clients. The Architectural Designer demonstrates exceptional technical skills, has a background in residential design, and proven experience developing outstanding client relationships.
The Architectural Designer works on projects from conception to construction administration and must have the ability to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously. Responsible for designing within a client’s budget, the Architectural Designer has expertise in construction and residential building code.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Performs all states of architectural design, including site assessment and evaluation, programming, test fitting, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
- Through regular design meetings with clients, develops projects from programming through to detailed construction drawings; provides construction administration and site visits as needed.
· Researches and establishes perimeters of remodels based on building code and client budget.
- Develops designs within pre-determined scope, budget and timeline; works diligently to stay within pre-determined design fee for each project.
· Resolves complex technical and design issues with innovative, constructible solutions within project budget;
- Produces plans, exterior elevations, building sections, and digital 3D view to communicate design concepts to client for approval throughout project.
- Demonstrates familiarity with architectural residential styles, interior and exterior architectural finishes, elements, and terminology.
- Manages the design of building envelope; researches project appropriate envelope FF&E, works with client to finalize selection, and relevant FF&E.
- Generates project specifications, finish schedules, and detailed design drawing set needed for construction.
- Works with project partner (Interior Designer), Design Department Manager, and Production Team to meet project deliverables, timeline, and budget.
· Ensures projects meet code, building, and engineering requirements.
- Prepares permit paperwork, documents, and drawings to obtain permit (as needed); maintains current expertise of construction and architectural building codes.
- Collaborates with external consultants, product representatives, and fabricators to procure bids, verify shop drawings, and oversee project inventory.
· Ensures design drawings, permit drawings, and project specification exhibit exceptional technical accuracy, quality, and meet CRD standards.
· Assists Design Department Manager in maintaining CRD CAD template, details library, objects library, technical, and graphic standards.
· Maintains up-to-date knowledge of residential design trends, residential building practices, building costs, and technical applications including relevant software.
· Behaves in a professional, positive, and courteous manner at all times.
Office and Administrative Duties:
· Participates in meetings as requested, including weekly client meetings, team meetings, and design review meetings.
· Participates in all company events, including company meetings and training sessions.
· Fosters positive relationships and clear communications with clients, vendors, and team members.
· Adheres to company policies and procedures.
· Provides phone back up, receives office deliveries, and participates in office maintenance as necessary.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· BA in Architecture or similar area of study.
· Minimum of three (3) years of residential remodel experience; three (3) years of residential design-build experience highly desired.
· Expertise in CAD Drafting; knowledge of ArchiCAD required.
· Expertise of relevant residential building codes and practical understanding of construction.
· Proficient in hand sketching/drawing skills, exterior remodels, and finishes selections.
· Strong knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite.
· Ability to work within deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
· Good communication skills, personable demeanor and sense of humor.
· Strong knowledge of appropriate English, spelling, grammar, punctuation and word usage and ability to communicate concepts, thoughts and ideas both written and orally to others.
· Ability to establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships with managers, peers, clients and other employees.
· Maintains a valid driver’s license and state required insurance.
Non-registered graduate of an Architectural professional degree program, with 3+ years of experience, post-degree, in a related field. Majority of experience would preferably be in residential architecture. Residential remodeling experience highly desired.
