As a Laboratory Tech within the Cherokee County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Location: Cherokee County Health Department in Woodstock, GA.
Job Responsibilities Under direct supervision, prepares media and/or reagents for use in performing routine analysis of samples. Performs laboratory tests and procedures under appropriate supervision. Operates and assists in maintaining lab equipment.
- Performs and collects Laboratory tests.
- Obtains venipuncture blood samples for tests as ordered.
- Submits lab specimens timely and accurately.
- Performs fingerstick, heel stick, and urine pregnancy testing.
- Measures and records client's vital signs.
- Maintains supplies and materials for clinic area.
- Checks expiration dates on lab supplies and properly disposes of outdated items.
- Monitors refrigerator and freezer temperatures and records on a log.
- Maintains inventory of lab supplies and orders supplies as needed.
- Maintains client records.
- Collects and records results of lab tests and immediately forwards abnormal results to the RN/NP for review.
- Maintains HIV reports as assigned.
- Participates in public health events which may include health fairs, mass flu vaccine clinics, and emergency response events for a real or drill purposed event.
Minimum Qualifications High School diploma/GED.
Preferred Qualifications - Public health experience
- Phlebotomy certification or back office medical assistant certification with phlebotomy experience.
