Description of Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Data Analytics Branch Chief and plan, direct, organize, and exercise control over multiple Data Scientists assigned to United States Space Command’s Digital Superiority Directorate.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to accomplish the command’s data science objectives to develop and manage the Command’s Data Analytics program, provide a range of data analytics, and develop associated policy and technical approaches.
  • Exercise supervisory personnel management responsibilities: assigning and managing the work of subordinates, setting short- and long-term priorities, preparing schedule, developing standards, evaluating performance, interviewing candidates, making personnel recommendations, developing assigned personnel, etc.
  • Innovate to improve the quantity and quality of work.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff sections and external organizations.
  • Represent the organization at higher echelons and with external organizations.

Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of data science techniques and technologies to perform statistical analysis, visualization, and apply machine learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data architecture, and data engineering policies, technologies, techniques, and methods.
  • Advanced skill in articulating and negotiating very complex and sensitive issues with officials of diverse perspectives and often with different or opposing views. Expert ability to negotiate and defend findings and gain executive support for new program concepts.
  • Knowledge or experience with project management approaches including PMP, Lean Six Sigma, Agile, or Kanban.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
  • A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience at the next lower broadband/grade level (or equivalent) in performing the major duties of position described above.

  • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
