Magic Valley Region Pollinator Survey Technicians at State of Idaho-Department of Fish and Game-170 in Jerome, Idaho, United States Job Description The Magic Valley Region is seeking two temporary Wildlife Diversity Technicians (non-benefited) to conduct pollinator surveys in sagebrush-steppe habitats, targeting monarch butterflies and all bumble bee species. Primary duties include scouting survey cells to locate optimal survey locations, hand-netting bumble bees and butterflies, taking reference photographs for species verification, conducting milkweed and larval monarch surveys, completing habitat assessments, data entry and organization, and plant species identification. Secondary duties may include Canada goose drive netting, duck banding, acoustic bat detector deployment and servicing, and freshwater mussel and crayfish surveys. Work hours will be variable, but will generally consist of 4, 10-hour workdays each week. The position starts June 2 and ends September 5, with a potential extension to September 19. Technicians may need to work irregular hours to fulfill position responsibilities. If tent camping from a work vehicle is necessary, camping equipment would be provided (except for sleeping bags). Technicians are expected to have excellent communication skills, be able to follow detailed survey protocols, and take thorough survey notes in the field.
