Analyst Job Description

ETE seeks an experienced analyst to support its consulting team in delivering work product to ETE’s clients. This is an opportunity to work for a growing specialized energy consulting firm that has a variety of clean energy and end user clients. ETE is a unique firm in that its consultants work to provide customized solutions to meet our clients’ expectations, and with this comes the opportunity to learn and dive deep into interesting rate-related energy topics. ETE is looking for an analyst that can support ETE’s consultants by providing key analysis and data insights. ETE’s hallmark is its ability to delve into new and emerging energy topics, especially as they relate to energy rates and markets. We are looking for someone interested in joining a team that strives to deliver excellent work products tailored to client needs.


Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have experience conducting analysis of datasets in Excel and a strong attention to detail, analytical rigor, and will be experienced and effective in proof-reading and quality-checking their own work before sending it to internal and external clients.

·        Minimum of four years of experience working as an analyst and using Excel, with energy industry experience preferred.

·        Must be highly proficient in Excel (e.g., can take a set of requirements and build an excel model to assess different variable inputs, scenarios, and outcomes; can work with large data sets can make efficient formulas; and can tease insights out of messy or imperfect datasets);

o  Can make well labeled and organized Excel sheets that non-technical  client can review and understand

o  Can make charts and graphs to illustrate points to clients, and has experience with data visualization methods and is able to leverage Excel’s charting and graphing capabilities.

o  Has some familiarity with Microsoft PowerBI and database organization (preferred, but not required)

·        Has demonstrated competency as a technical writer and can write sections of reports detailing analytical methods and interpretation of results.

·        Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently. Communicates with co-workers to keep them informed of work progress and seeks guidance as needed.

·        Strong drive to learn new topics and is genuinely curious about the energy industry.

·        Hybrid work schedule with 4 days a week in downtown Boston.

·        College Degree in a rigorous discipline with science, engineering and technology preferred, (we are open to liberal arts majors who have experience working with data and very strong Excel skills)

·        Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines.

·        Interest in interfacing with ETE’s clients, as needed.


Typical Job Duties

·        Work with energy consumption and generation datasets to provide insights into patterns and data trends.

·        Conduct energy cost and scenario modeling with different energy market data sets and energy rate and tariff parameters to assess a range of energy project cost-outcomes.

·        Conduct data cleaning to prepare datasets for analysis internally.

·        Conduct research to obtain rate and rate-related materials from primary sources.

·        Investigate rate case work papers to assist ETE’s consultants in estimating the impact of regulatory and rate changes for ETE’s clients.

·        Create custom Excel models and templates for ETE consultants based on client needs.

·        Support ETE consultants in regulatory engagements through provision of illustrative charts and graphics that are client-ready. Ability to provide polished work is highly valued.

·        Conduct bill audit and tariff optimization using large datasets to identify outliers.

·        Assist in communications and negotiations with utilities to resolve billing disputes or contract disputes among PPA counterparties.
