About Us: Straight Arrow News is dedicated to delivering clear, concise, and impactful news content across various platforms. We are expanding our digital footprint and are seeking a talented Video Editor to join our team, particularly to work with our economics podcast team.


Position Overview: We are looking for a dynamic Video Editor with a strong understanding of digital content creation to produce video content, primarily for an economics podcast. This role requires someone who is not only technically skilled but also has a creative, producer-focused mindset. The ideal candidate can transform podcast episodes into highly engaging, shareable content across YouTube, social media, and other digital platforms.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit high-quality, full-length video podcast episodes that complement audio episodes.
  • Work closely with podcast producer and host to generate ideas for video content that support the podcast’s goals and audience growth.
  • Identify key moments from each episode and create attention-grabbing short-form vertical clips to share on social media.
  • Stay up to date on video editing trends for social media and YouTube.
  • Ensure content is optimized for viewer engagement, including selecting the best thumbnails for short- and long-form videos.
  • Work with graphics department to create dynamic visuals that best illustrate the story.
  • Learn and understand the subject matter. Take initiative by searching and acquiring video/images/sound for use in videos.
  • Maintain a consistent visual style that aligns with our brand.
  • Edit news packages and interviews.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Video Editor, preferably with a focus on digital content and social media.
  • Proficient in editing video in Adobe Premiere timelines with multiple video/audio/graphics layers.
  • Strong organizational skills with regard to project and media management.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to navigate Windows and Mac interfaces.
  • Understanding of visual composition and framing.
  • Ability to identify strong, purposeful, accurate, intentional, and fair images.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in precision for all aspects of the job.
  • Self-starter and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Understanding of motion graphics over video.
  • News background preferred, via school or previous employment.
  • Eagerness to work in a fast-paced newsroom environment while staying calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of economics or experience with economics-related content is a plus.
