Job Responsibilities
This leadership position is responsible for regulatory, and operational logistics to support the Georgia Public Health Laboratory mission to provide accurate and timely diagnostic and surveillance testing.
This position will assist the Deputy Director with management of day-to-day operational tasks, including, strategic and programmatic planning, management of legal and contractual issues fiscal responsibility, , security, maintenance, quality assurance, and information systems to include direct management of Emergency Response, Administrative Operations and Quality and Assurance.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Supervises day to day laboratory operational and activities ensuring that processes meet organizational requirements.
  • Assists with development, review, revision, interpretation, and/or implementation for policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Coordinates interaction between department, agency, and facility operating units, other programs, and/or external customers as appropriate
  • Provides Direct Supervision of staff. Approves or denies requests for leave and overtime. Completes all aspects of employee evaluations for merit employees
  • Assists with laboratory initiatives including accreditation, safety, workforce development, quality improvement and readiness.
  • Assists with development, implements, and monitors federal grant budgets and workplans including development and monitoring of contractual agreements.
  • Collaborates with leadership and senior managers to develop and implement the program's strategic goals in accordance with the mission of the agency.
  • Assists with development of change management and workforce development initiatives.
  • Analyzes data and prepares technical and administrative reports for the laboratory director, and for grants, publications and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains and fosters communication among staff and with public health partners and customers.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Serves as integral member of the lab leadership team.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, or a related field which includes six (6) years in a managerial or supervisory role;
or
Ten (10) years of related professional experience which includes six (6) years in a managerial or supervisory role;
or
Six (6) years of experience required at the lower level Sr Mgr 2, Business Ops (GSM013) or position equivalent.
Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in biological, health, or behavioral science; health practice; education; public, healthcare, or business administration; or a closely related field.
  • Laboratory Regulations: Knowledge of the guidelines, regulations, including the application of compliance rules and criteria and the ability to make appropriate decisions.
  • Program and policy management: Plans, coordinates, and monitors program initiatives.
  • Equivalent combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience directly related to the job duties
