Job Description
The Director of Legacy and Planned Giving has primary responsibility for administering the legacy giving program for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation. In partnership with the Foundation Prospect Research team as well as Major Gift Officers, the Director will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding current and potential donors with the capacity to make legacy gifts. The Director is also responsible for managing stewardship efforts for the Foundation's legacy giving program, including developing strategies for the Foundation's Legacy Circle giving society and the annual Children's Legacy Luncheon event. Additionally, the Director will manage the Children's Legacy Leadership Council, a network of professional advisors across disciplines to promote collaboration, education and leadership in legacy and personal giving for themselves and their clients. The Director of Legacy and Planned giving reports to the Vice President for Development and Operations within Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation
Experience

  • Minimum 7 years proven track record within nonprofit development or related experience;
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of fundraising or similar high-end financial management or sales;
  • Experience documenting or working to establish estate gift commitments or other planned giving instruments;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in exercising discretion in a complex, evolving environment;
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and by phone.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Clear understanding of and success in utilizing the broad range of gift planning strategies;
  • Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments in the five+ figure ranges;
  • Proven success in development stewardship strategies that lead to further philanthropic investments;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage volunteers and peers around common mission.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive legacy giving program, serving as a resource for the Foundation's major and annual gift officers to solicit and close planned gifts;
  • Manages the stewardship of a portfolio of legacy gift donors;
  • Manages professional advisor volunteers and leadership council to actively contribute to legacy giving program strategy, prospect development and stewardship activities;
  • In conjunction with the Vice President for Development and Operations, the Director will set annual goals for the legacy giving program;
  • In coordination with the Prospect Research and Analytics team, assist in establishing legacy giving prospect criteria;
  • In coordination with gift officers, supports the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of legacy donors;
  • Leads the marketing and communication efforts for the legacy giving program consisting of direct mail pieces, digital media and website content and newsletters;
  • In partnership with the Annual Events and Stewardship team, cultivates Children's Legacy Circle through annual event management and other stewardship touchpoints;
  • Conduct training of appropriate development staff members in planned giving techniques sufficient to enable them to identify and qualify prospects and independently solicit and close planned gifts;
  • Demonstrate ability to cross-collaborate with other departmental and system-wide teams and displays a positive, mutually beneficial approach ability to work as a team and display a positive approach.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on both prospects and donors via database;
  • Represent Children's appropriately at miscellaneous community functions, and by networking and nurturing new and existing relationships;
  • Maintains close association and expert knowledge of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
