The OpportunityThe Asian Law Caucus (ALC), a leading civil rights organization dedicated to advocating for API and immigrant communities, is looking for a passionate and experienced Managing Director of Development to join our senior leadership team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in propelling ALC’s mission forward, ensuring we have the necessary resources to effect meaningful change. We seek someone to craft a visionary fundraising strategy and design and implement a comprehensive fundraising approach that encompasses individual giving, major donations, and institutional support. This role leads ALC’s fundraising efforts, overseeing all facets of our fundraising program and driving initiatives that resonate with our community and mission. The Managing Director of Development will engage with key stakeholders, cultivate relationships with influential external partners, and represent ALC at public events and forums to showcase our impactful work. At ALC, you will be part of a dedicated team that champions justice and equity for API and immigrant communities. This position reports to the Executive Director.The OrganizationAsian Law Caucus (ALC) is the nation’s first legal and civil rights organization serving low-income, immigrant, and marginalized Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern and Pacific Islander communities. Since 1972, ALC has fought to protect access to affordable housing in San Francisco’s Chinatown, litigated high-profile civil rights cases, advocated for the passage of landmark policy changes, and provided an array of services to low-income immigrants and communities of color. Today, with a staff of 60 we bring together legal services, community empowerment, and policy advocacy to fight for immigrant justice, economic security, and a stronger, multiracial democracy. Our work is rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area and California and expands to states across the country, including places where immigrant, Asian, Arab, Middle Eastern, and Pacific Islander communities are rapidly growing.Primary ResponsibilitiesFundraising and Donor EngagementDevelop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including individual giving, major donors, and institutional funding to meet an annual $17M budgetOversee all aspects of ALC’s fundraising programWith the Communications team, implement marketing strategies to support fundraising effortsCoordinate and guide the Executive Director and Board in their fund development activitiesCultivate relationships with key external stakeholders and represent ALC and it’s work at public events and forumsTeam Management and DevelopmentBuild and lead a high-performing development team of 7 staff membersProvide mentorship and guidance to staffFoster a culture of collaboration and innovationInfrastructure and Systems ManagementDevelop and maintain effective fundraising systems and processesManage the development team's budgetImplement technology solutions to enhance operationsExecutive LeadershipWork closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership on fundraising strategy to ensure alignment with operational and programmatic needs.Serve as a key member of ALC's strategy teamEnsure close coordination with program teams on data gathering, reporting and evaluationQualificationsPassion for ALC's mission and nonprofit fundraising10+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including 5+ years in senior leadershipProven track record of achieving fundraising goals from diverse sources including foundations, government, and major donorsRelationships with national and state foundations a plusStrong networking, communication, and interpersonal skillsExperience in creating strategic multi-year fundraising plansDemonstrated success in staff management and mentorshipExcellent organizational and multitasking skillsExpertise with fundraising software (e.g., GiveSmart, NetworkforGood) and project management tools (e.g., Asana, Slack, Salesforce)Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferredAll ALC staff are expected to participate in regular check-in meetings with their supervisor/supervisees, staff meetings, team meetings, and other organization meetings, as required.
