Simkhai is searching for a talented Materials R&D Associate who will be an integral role in the development of Simkhai’s extensive RTW categories. This includes womenswear, menswear, swimwear and denim.

Responsibilities

FABRIC AND COLOR RESEARCH

• Conduct seasonal fabric and color research based on Simkhai’s aesthetic, continue to propel a sense of innovation
• Seasonal trim and hardware research, incorporate tactile processes and launch custom trim developments with vendors
• Attend fabric appointments and assist in pulling selection based on seasonal design direction
• Assist fabric manager in submitting qualities for competitive sourcing

PRINT, ARTWORK AND FABRIC DEVELOPMENT

• Send artwork files to vendors while steadily tracking progress of strike off’s and handlooms
• Assist fabric manager in issuing lab dip and strike off comments to vendors
• Work with artwork designer to properly realize design’s vision

INTERNAL PROCESSES

• Create physical & digital seasonal color palette and distribute accordingly
• Maintain fabric WIP, organize vendor’s FDS
• Arrange swatches for local dyeing, pleating and conduct additional development trials
• Issue fabric & trim PO’s, track status with vendors making sure to adhere to calendar due dates
• Maintain seasonal fabric binder and build seasonal fabric boards for visibility across categories
• Prep seasonal binder for handoff to production team
• Keep fabric and print archive organized
• Check in seasonal SMS fabric & tailoring yardage communicating with atelier manager & product development team
• Check in and organize seasonal trims and materials. Maintain archive.

Qualifications

• Must have an undergraduate degree, fashion or creative related preferred
• Must have a minimum of 2 years industry experience
• Must have demonstrated experience with textiles and sourcing
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must have strong interpersonal skills for building working relationships within teams
• Must have strong time management and organizational skills to establish priorities and meet specific timelines
• Must be self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency
• Must have enthusiasm for the fashion industry & RTW product cycle
• Experience in runway collection a plus
