This position is the technical leader within the Master Facilities Plan to oversee and implement the Safety Programs in the New Building Program at the Hospital. The position will report to the Senior Director of Field Operations and will ensure a detailed safety program is implemented on the project.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:
Functions
- Supports in the construction development, coordination, and implementation of the new building project with focus on cost on the safety program for the hospital and the construction management firm.
- Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
- Works independently to maintain the current reporting and other project documentation.
- As required, participates in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization.
- Is responsible for participation in committees, task forces and projects as appropriate.
- Assures the provision of a safe employee/patient environment.
- Maintains knowledge related to the operations of their department.
- Works collaboratively with all levels of the hospital interdisciplinary team and promotes the team concept within their department and hospital wide.
- Demonstrates positive customer service and fosters positive employee relations.

- Promotes a positive and professional image and is a role model for peers.
- Ensures quality and consistency of services provided to the Hospital through systematic review of construction documents and construction activities with all involved parties
- Assures completion of staff orientation, annual and ongoing competency, and education requirements.
- Attends and participates in educational programs or activities to maintain the current level of knowledge or expertise to manage direct reports.
- Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement initiative as required.
- Utilizes multiple methodologies to ensure effective communication of information.
- Adheres to safety standards for employees and patients.
- Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities - Implements construction projects in compliance with the WPH process including regulatory submissions, budgets, schedules, the design process, construction process, quality control, and adherence to project specifications and drawings
- Responsible for overseeing the Construction Manager's safety on the jobsite.
- Review and advise on CM's emergency evacuation, crisis management, and fire prevention programs and ensures the that they meet and comply with WPH standards.
- Conducts daily safety inspections and works with the construction management team to enforce safety standards.
- Updates the project team current on all Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) standards, WPH policies and requirements, and current industry trends.
- Walks the site to coach/mentor construction team members in recognizing and mitigating hazards on a daily and continuous basis.
- Creates accountability for all project team members, whether contract vendors or Hospital staff for safety requirements
- With the assistance of supervisory leadership, reviews all schedules and logistics plans
- Responsible for communication between the construction management firm and internal hospital teams to coordinate various construction activities
- Maintains project records including reports, regulatory submissions and all other project information related to safety.
- With the guidance of senior department leadership, assures compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations and accreditation standards. Including: The Joint Commission (or other similar authority), New York State Building and Health Departments, City of White Plains Building and Public Safety Departments, United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, National Fire Protection Association standards, AIA Guidelines for the Design & Construction of Healthcare Facilities, and others as required by individual projects.
Education & Experience Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management required, along with SSC or SSM license.
- Professional work experience to include over 10 to 15 years in construction/facilities project experience managing safety and/or the safety culture for the facility.
- Thorough understanding of OSHA and NYC DOB guidelines and regulations, and appropriate certifications.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment - May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
