Position Summary
Fresno Pacific University invites applications for a dynamic leader to head the Department of Nursing, ensuring the highest standards of academic excellence. The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) will be responsible for strategic planning, faculty development, curriculum oversight, and fostering a collaborative environment that promotes community engagement. Our programs, which are BRN-approved and CCNE-accredited, include a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program with a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) focus.
Essential Functions
Duties:
  • Leadership and administration of all aspects of nursing programs
    • Provides positive leadership, promoting employee competence, morale, and retention
    • Provides leadership in supporting program directors in both internal assessment and in meeting external accreditation standards
    • Supports program directors in communicating with the California BRN as necessary regarding program status and changes
    • Represents the nursing unit at meetings of accreditation and regulatory bodies
    • Develops and maintains information supporting annual budget planning
    • Provides oversight of maintenance of records relevant to nursing programs
    • Facilitates professional development for faculty in teaching preparation, nursing theory and practice, and in faith and liberal arts integration
  • Curriculum
    • Facilitates textbook selection and ordering across programs
    • Serves as ATI liaison
    • Recommends purchases of supplies and equipment to support the curriculum
    • Supports the nursing lab manager in ensuring labs meet standards and are maintained
  • Faculty
    • Provides input on hiring of all nursing faculty
    • Oversees (directly or indirectly) orientation and onboarding of all nursing faculty
    • Develops faculty load schedules for each academic year
    • Facilitates conflict resolution effectively
  • Develops and maintains community relationships both with internal and external constituents
  • Maintains professional memberships and professional development
  • Maintains and/or develops, as needed, curriculum in area of expertise
  • Complete tasks timely with work that is comprehensive, complete, and accurate

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree which includes course work in nursing, education or administration (doctoral candidates will be considered; completion of a terminal degree is a requisite for continued employment)
  • One (1) year of experience as an administrator with validated performance of administrative responsibilities in a registered nursing education program or the registered nurse administrator of a hospital professional nursing education services program
  • Two (2) years of experience teaching in pre or post-licensure registered nursing programs
  • One (1) year of continuous experience, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse
  • Unrestricted and unencumbered current California Registered Nurse license.
  • Commitment to the Christian faith and the University's mission of Christ-centered teaching and learning and involvement in a local church
  • Ability to acquire a clear (unrestricted and unencumbered) and active California Registered Nurse license
  • Ability to promote a collegial environment in work with students, staff, and faculty

Preferred:
  • Evidence of effective academic, administrative leadership within a BSN, RN-to-BSN, and/or MSN program
  • Evidence of teaching experience and experience in curriculum development
  • Record or promise of scholarly achievement
  • Experience with licensing (California BRN) and/or program accreditation via CCNE
  • Experience as a California BRN-approved program director or as a California BRN-approved assistant program director

Environmental Conditions:
  • Indoors in a normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes at least eighty percent (80%) of the time.
  • Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
  • Frequently work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  • Drive personal or University vehicles to appointments.
  • Public contact position requiring professional apparel, personal hygiene, and grooming.

Physical Demands:
  • This position typically functions indoors in an office environment with light to moderate noise associated with business office equipment. The position may involve travel for meetings and events.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain in a stationary position 80 % of the time, be able to move about inside the office to access file cabinets/office machinery etc., operate a computer and keyboard and other office productivity machinery such as calculators/copy machines/printers. The employee is occasionally required to position self to reach items on the floor and in high cabinetry.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate with others to exchange information including both over the telephone and in-person communication with callers and community members and be able to read a computer screen and paper documents.
