CAREER DESCRIPTION
DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY IV (HIGH-TECH CRIMES PROSECUTOR)
In addition to performance-based merit increases, this position is scheduled to receive salary range increases on the following dates:
Effective June 27, 2025 - 4.00% increase
Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Deputy District Attorney IV (High-Tech Crimes Prosecutor):
  • Is assigned to the Science and Technology Unit as a High-Tech Crimes/Cyber Crimes prosecutor and subject matter expert
  • Prepares and litigates serious and complex High-Tech Crimes cases before the Superior and Appellate Courts
  • Participates in regional task force operations
  • Attends local, state, and national training events, as well as provides training to prosecutors and local law enforcement
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in High-Tech Crimes and Cyber Crimes to help coordinate office-wide investigations and prosecutions, as well as provides advice and guidance to colleagues and local law enforcement on the investigation and prosecution such crimes
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
In addition to minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess thorough knowledge of substantive and procedural law as it pertains to prosecuting high-tech/cybercrimes in the State of California.
Experience:
  • Five or more years of experience as an attorney specifically in the practice of criminal law.
  • One or more years of experience in the advanced use of technology in investigations and/or prosecutions; and/or the prosecution of high-tech crimes, cybercrimes or related offenses.
  • Advanced training and/or education in high-tech crimes or cyber-crimes investigations and/or prosecutions and/or the advanced use of technology in criminal investigations.
Ability to:
  • Identify, investigate, and prosecute high-tech related crimes that involve use of the Internet, private or public networks, computer systems, and other digital devices.
  • Become an officewide subject matter expert on High-Tech crimes.
  • Analyze, organize, file, evaluate, and try serious and complex cases High-Tech crimes cases
  • Perform complex and difficult legal research and effectively present and argue the prosecution's position orally and in writing.
  • Work effectively with District Attorney staff, members of the bench and bar, law enforcement personnel and members of the public.
  • Attend local and out of county/state trainings (Some travel will be required)
  • Train and develop skills for prosecutors, police, and support staff, including through case-based mentoring on high-tech/cybercrime cases.
  • Build capacity within the law enforcement agencies to combat High-Tech crimes.
LICENSE REQUIRED
  • Active membership in the State Bar of California
or
  • Members in good standing of California State Bar and have been assigned a license number but have inactive membership status are also welcome to apply. An active California State Bar membership and eligibility to practice law in the State of California must be attained by date of appointment and maintained throughout employment.

  • Possession of a California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation to carry out the essential functions of the job.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS District Attorney Human Resources screens all application materials for minimum and/or desirable qualifications. Structured Oral Interview (SOI) | (Weighted 100%): Candidates will be interviewed and rated by a panel of job knowledge experts. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the job. Only the most successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list. Based on the Department's needs, the recruitment process listed above may be modified. Once the assessment has been completed, District Attorney Human Resources will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
