Computational Scientist at Battelle Energy Alliance dba Idaho National Labora in Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States Job Description Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Computational Scientist to work in our Computational Frameworks department. Our team works a 980 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. Our Computational Scientist will be a strong asset to the MOOSE team and working both in isolation and as a member of the team. You must take direction from other team members and peers and provide input in a constructive manner to others while maintaining a positive and professional relationship with all. Responsibilities Include: May lead computational Multiphysics methods and code development and software teams. Specifically, assist with the development advanced scientific numerical packages, frameworks, and multiphysics analysis tools for nuclear fuel performance modeling. Provide Software Quality Assurance. Oversee and develop computational science/math algorithms involving solutions of multiphysics problems, nonlinear solvers, and preconditioning, discretization of PDE systems, finite element methods, and discontinuous Galerkin methods. Organize team research and lead advanced research and development. Provide recommendations to INL management to ensure program goals and milestones are clearly defined and achieved. Foster collaborative relationships both inside the INL and external entities (university faculty, industry vendors, other national laboratories, and foreign national researchers). Prepare internal and external technical reports; publish work in peer-reviewed journals, topical meetings, conference summaries, and conference proceedings. Participate in professional society activities. Initiate research efforts by authoring proposals, lead proposal teams, and conducting advanced research and development investigations. You will report to the Department Manager. Minimum Requirements: Level 3: MS and two years of experience in computational science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, other engineering, or a closely related field is required. Level 4: PhD and 4 years or MS and 6 years related experience in computational science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, other engineering, or a closely related field is required. Requires formal education and experience in one of the following areas: (1) computational science/math involving solutions of Multiphysics problems, nonlinear solvers, and preconditioning, (2) discretization of PDE systems, finite element methods, discontinuous Galerkin methods, or (3) numerical methods such as Multiphysics coupling strategies, multiscale methods, and high order time integration. This experience may be in the form of postgraduate work, publication of refereed journal articles, or equivalent. Fluency in C , Python, and the development of advanced mathematical software. Requires appreciable knowledge of numerical analysis, computational science, scientific computing, and scientific software engineering. Requires experience programming various finite element discretization techniques, parallel computing, and the development of complex scientific software for the coupled solution of systems of PDEs is expected. Requires appreciable knowledge of computational science, scientific computing, and numerical methods for models, such as Euler's and Navier Stokes equations. Job Information: The pay range for this position is: Level #3 $91,008.00 - $186,588.00 / Level #4 $109,260.00 - $223,908.00.
