Job Description

Our paralegal serves within the Office of General Counsel (OGC). The OGC, working collaboratively with DEW's divisions, promotes the DEW's goals through skilled advice and diligent advocacy. OGC is committed to assisting executive staff in making informed decisions and solving problems, advising staff to ensure compliance with legal requirements, and representing DEW in judicial and governmental proceedings.
This role provides administrative support to the General Counsel and Office of General Counsel of DEW. To manage day to day support operations of the Office of General Counsel.
An ideal candidate will understand the principles of office management and be able to follow style guides and court rules. Familiarity with unemployment laws and regulations, Microsoft 365 including Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
Key Responsibilities
  • Responds to general inquiries about OGC business and appeals processes.
  • Handles incoming mail by routing, prioritizing, and filing letters.
  • Serves as the administrative interface with other division assistants and department leaders.
  • Processes incoming court cases, collects appropriate files, and enters data into the Access database.
  • Redacts, binds, and sends records, briefs, motions, and court documents.
  • Maintains the department calendar to ensure that attorneys' court appearances are on time.
  • Supports OGC management with reporting and record-keeping responsibilities.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
Education and Experience
A high school diploma and paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Completion of paralegal courses and/or a paralegal certificate.
Notary Public Certification.
