Job Description

Are you driven by a competitive spirit? Energized by building relationships that matter? Inspired by the opportunity to shape the community spaces of our future? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team as a Business Development Manager for our Raleigh market.
In this role, you'll focus on pursuing public sector opportunities, including k-12 schools, higher ed, fire stations, police departments, municipal buildings, and other civic projects. It's not just about buildings-it's about creating spaces that inspire and serve the community. You'll be the face of our company in city council meetings, county planning sessions, and community forums, where the foundation for tomorrow's projects begins.
What You'll Do

  • Lead the Chase : Strategically identify and pursue public sector projects, staying ahead of RFPs and RFQs while forging relationships with city and county decision-makers.
  • Collaborate with MWBE Coordinators : Work closely with MWBE (Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise) coordinators to establish reasonable participation goals required by public clients. Own the responsibility of understanding client expectations for these goals and aligning our efforts to exceed them.
  • Build Relationships : Engage with architects, engineers, local officials, and community leaders to position us as the trusted partner for their construction needs.
  • Be a Presence : Attend city and county meetings (yes, some are after hours!) to gather insights, advocate for projects, and build our reputation as a civic leader.
  • Collaborate Across Teams : Partner with preconstruction, MWBE, operations and marketing teams to develop winning proposals and ensure alignment with client requirements.
  • Make an Impact : Represent our company with enthusiasm and integrity, embodying the values of partnership, trust, and innovation.
Key Skills
  • Knowledge of Public Procurement Processes : Familiarity with RFQs, RFPs, and public bidding is essential. Navigating and optimizing these processes ensures competitive positioning.
  • Communication and Storytelling : You can effectively communicate our company's value by addressing civic priorities such as safety, MWBE, and community impact. Storytelling enhances our unique capabilities and track record.
  • Networking and Relationship Building : Strong ability to establish and maintain connections with local government officials, city planners, architects, and community leaders for early insight into opportunities.
  • Strategic Thinking : You excel at evaluating project alignment with company strengths and developing winning strategies, including opportunities for partnerships and joint ventures.
  • Technical and Industry Knowledge : Familiarity with construction techniques, regulations, and public infrastructure trends allows you to speak the language of your clients and establish credibility.
  • Problem-Solving and Negotiation : You're skilled at navigating challenges like tight budgets or environmental constraints with creative solutions and value-engineering options.
  • Community Engagement : You can effectively engage the public through town hall meetings or project updates, building trust and goodwill.
  • Presentation and Proposal Writing : Expertise in partnering with marketing in crafting compelling proposals and delivering persuasive presentations to selection committees is a key differentiator.
What You Bring to the Table
  • Experience : At least 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or public sector work, preferably in the construction industry or a related field.
  • Competitive Edge : You thrive on the thrill of the chase and constantly push to outperform expectations.
  • Sense of Urgency : You excel at prioritizing and seizing opportunities in fast-paced environments.
  • Community-Minded : You're motivated to contribute to projects that positively impact the lives of others.
  • Commitment to Equity : You're passionate about supporting diversity and inclusion in public projects through MWBE outreach and partnerships.

Why You'll Love Working With Us
We don't just build structures-we build relationships, careers, and legacies. You'll join a collaborative, innovative team that's passionate about creating spaces where people learn, grow, and thrive. You'll also have the support of a company that values your growth and celebrates your successes.
Ready to Make a Difference?
If you're ready to roll up your sleeves, hit the ground running, and make an impact in the Raleigh market, we'd love to hear from you.
