Job Description: This role will lead a Parks Sanitation crew in the upkeep of parks facilities using a variety of machines, tools, and equipment.
Examples of Duties: - Supervises and participates with a crew cleaning and maintaining City Parks.
- Maintains condition of equipment and tools, including: truck, dump trailer, utility trailer, wheel barrow, hand carts, and hand tools.
- Drives a truck with other staff to designated work locations.
- Leads workers in the general sanitation efforts of City Parks, Facilities, and other areas of the public realm, as necessary.
- Directly responsible for removal of all litter/debris in park and public locations, removal of trash bags from designated receptacles and replacement with clean bags.
- Directly responsible for removal of recyclables from identified recycle containers and emptying the bags into identified central recycle dumpsters.
- Monitor and Refill Dog Waste Bag Dispensers at various park and public realm locations.
- Routinely clean all signage in parks and on park buildings, including, but not limited to Park Rules signage, Park Name Signage, Wayfinding Signage around parks and on buildings, Specialty Rule Signage, and any other signage as identified by supervisor.
- Uses a variety of chemical cleaners, hand tools, and power tools to remove gum and stains, as needed.
- Sweeps, cleans park spaces using battery blower, shovel, and/or broom as needed.
- Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Interprets policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Interprets job orders to workers and assigns duties.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of output.
- Suggests changes in processes and use of equipment to increase efficiency of work crew.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Resolves problems and fulfills all requests within their authority and refers any and all requests that cannot be resolved to supervisor.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of the division.
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- As needed, responsible for leading litter and trash cleanup efforts during City sponsored events.
- Assists with set up at special events, such as SEWE, Cooper River Bridge Run and Spoleto, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications: - High school degree and 1.5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid SC drivers license.
