The Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus
Works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment
Frequently functions guided by nursing protocols
Functions as a team leader as assigned
Demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths
Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems
Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate-patient including adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) within the framework established by the correctional system
Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships
Uses current knowledge to promote a safe environment for providing health care to inmate-patients
Maintains current professional skills and continues professional growth to enhance the practice of correctional nursing and the image of the organization
Adhere to personnel policies to enhance the operation of the health care unit
Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for the nursing personnel of the health care unit and assumes responsibility for his/her continuing education and professional development and contributes to the professional growth of co-workers
Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members
May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Certifications/Licenses
RN License to practice in the State of New Jersey.
CPR Certification required - Must be from American Heart Association
Valid Driver's License is required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Nursing (BSN)
Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a correctional setting preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
Special Conditions Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another. Must be approved by the client and adhere to all client requirements. Employees will be subject to and must comply with all security regulations and procedures.
