Supports include a strong nursing staff, an excellent pharmacy department and an on-site medical clinic. This position primarily focuses on an Inpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Specialty Unit (CAPS) at Austin State Hospital (ASH) which predominantly admits acute child and adolescent patients with serious mental illness. With possible co-occurring disorders (substance abuse, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, and medical illness), and possible involvements in child protective services and the juvenile justice system. The psychiatrist will provide both leadership and support to recovery team members and to facility clinical functions. As such, an ability to work with all disciplines, from direct care staff to consulting physicians, is essential for the provision of optimal care plans with the ultimate goal of partnering with our regional associates to integrate our clients back in to the community.
