Your role

We are seeking a Special Loans Officer to focus on helping our customers find solutions to maintain homeownership. The individual will work closely with borrowers to provide solutions for bringing mortgage payments up to date. They will have responsibility for coordinating the delinquency management activities in compliance with CWB and regulatory requirements. This position will complete outbound/inbound collection calling activities and support other workgroups with outbound calling activities as required.

Successful incumbent

  • Work closely with all borrowers to negotiate solutions for bringing mortgage payments up to date.
  • Make outbound calls to clients to collect delinquent mortgage payments and resolve arrears issues.
  • Handle inbound client calls related to collections activity.
  • Complete required payments accurately and timely for property management occupancy checks.
  • Complete required payments accurately for borrowers who wish to make arrangements for alternate payment dates.
  • Review delinquency reports and manage critical collection dates, following up on collection activity.
  • Identify & implement process improvement opportunities to increase the efficiency of the Default Management function.
  • Actively manage the expenditure process so that all appropriate fees can be recovered through the foreclosure process.
  • Assist the manager as required with other tasks required within the department.
  • Stay current with relevant regulatory requirements and industry leading practices and default management trends.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that contribute to working effectively in a diverse working environment.
Skills

Foundational knowledge and experience to grow from
  • Post-secondary education in business, economics or accounting would be desirable or equivalent relevant professional experience in collections, mortgage lending, or call centre environment
  • Minimum two years of experience in collections/ default management or loss mitigation.

  • Familiarity with Fair Debt Collection practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously, manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Accuracy and the ability to handle a high-volume of work efficiently with an above average attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to negotiate and strong sales ability.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and analytical skills with the ability to effectively process a large volume of information.
  • Comfortability with technology, new systems, and working in multiple systems including strong proficiency with MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship-building skills.
  • Willingness and demonstrated ability to keep abreast of current industry, regulatory and policy developments which impact Optimum Mortgage's default management process.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate appropriate initiative when making decisions.
