  • Great hospital in western Illinois is currently looking for an experienced Med Surg traveling nurse to cover a 13 week assignment starting ASAP.
  • The traveler will be working 12 hour shifts.
    Job Requirements
  • Current RN licensure with 3-5 years of nursing experience, ideally in a rural hospital setting.
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills; experience with telemetry monitoring is essential.
    Schedule Information
  • Shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; schedules posted 6 weeks in advance, accommodating traveler preferences as much as possible.
  • Weekend Commitment: Every other or every third weekend.
  • Holiday Requirements: None mandatory; volunteers are appreciated.
  • Call/Standby: No call requirements, but volunteer opportunities are available.

  • Unit Overview: Join our dedicated Med/Surg team in a 16-bed unit, where you will provide exceptional care to a diverse patient population. We maintain a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, ensuring high-quality, personalized care in a supportive environment.
  • Unit Features: Support Staff: 1 CNA available for assistance.
  • Equipment: Access to high-flow oxygen and Vapotherm; more complex respiratory support (e.g., BiPAP) is transferred to ICU. Patient Flow: Expect a high turnover of patients with frequent admissions and discharges throughout the day.
  • Orientation: Comprehensive orientation during the first week, including HR processes, infection control training, equipment familiarization, and hands-on experience with a preceptor.
  • Key Responsibilities: Deliver compassionate nursing care to patients with various medical conditions, including respiratory issues (COPD, pneumonia), cellulitis, and congestive heart failure (CHF), as well as surgical cases such as colon resections and orthopedic procedures (total hips and knees).
  • Monitor patients using Nihon Kohden telemetry; RNs are responsible for interpreting their own strips.
  • Collaborate with a small team, including a clinical care coordinator and a charge nurse who actively takes patient assignments, while a house supervisor supports the team on weekends.
  • Assist in outpatient infusions as needed, although experience is preferred for travelers.
