About the Team
Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI's products and platform amongst our core audiences. We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with Product, Engineering, Sales, Developer Relations, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels. Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.
About the Role
As the Safety Product Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for driving the strategy and execution of OpenAI's messaging around the safe development and deployment of our models, and further establish OpenAI as an industry leader in AI safety. This role requires someone who is creative, passionate about technological safety, and is able to compellingly communicate nuanced and complex AI safety topics to the AI research community.
This role reports into the Head of Product Marketing, and offers a unique opportunity to shape the narrative of AI safety and build global trust in AI systems.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:

• Lead the development and implementation of the strategy for communicating safety to AI researchers, academics, and safety institutes.
• Craft and deliver compelling narratives about the safety work OpenAI has done for product launches and other safety milestones such as research papers, ensuring messaging resonates with our target audiences and aligns with our overall communication goals.
• Autonomously propose and execute on projects to show safety progress outside of specific product launches or papers, including creating new materials (e.g., blog posts, videos, podcasts) and organizing events that showcase OpenAI as leading the industry in safety.
• Incorporate data-informed insights into messaging strategies and bring these insights to Safety Systems to incorporate back into our work.
• Collaborate closely with Safety Systems, Research, Communications, Legal, and Product Policy to develop shared safety storytelling.

You might thrive in this role if you:

• 5+ years of experience in product marketing or related roles focused on AI researcher experience, with a strong focus on safety, privacy, or a related area.
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, quickly changing, and complex environment.
• Exceptional ability to translate complex, technical information into clear, persuasive, and accessible content for external technical audiences.
• Familiarity with AI technologies and a proven ability to understand deep technical details.
• Proven success in building relationships and collaborating with executives, technical partners, legal, and other stakeholders.
