Summary/Objective
The Sr. Process Controls Engineer will play a key role in planning, implementing, and monitoring the performance of manufacturing processes. Working under general supervision, this position involves a variety of responsibilities, including overseeing and sustaining process control systems using various PLC platforms. These platforms are associated with composite material manufacturing processes such as compression molding, robotic trimming, robotic adhesive dispensing, automated bonding, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Additional responsibilities include supporting the operations network, ancillary systems, asset management programs, and communication systems essential for maintaining plant operations.
The Sr. Process Controls Engineer will also provide project management, site support, and integration engineering services. They will contribute to cost reduction initiatives, improve manufacturing performance, and support future development efforts by collaborating with internal teams and external resources.

- Project Management: Manages multiple cross-disciplinary projects related to instrumentation and controls, working under general direction with minimal supervision.
- Equipment Performance & Maintenance Support: Contributes to optimizing process and equipment performance, collaborates effectively with the maintenance team on projects, and performs periodic audits of electronic equipment or machinery used in manufacturing (e.g., servo presses and robotic cells). Responsible for troubleshooting breakdowns and implementing process improvements.
- System Oversight: Oversees hardware and software associated with SCADA systems, PLCs, and ancillary systems. Manages licenses, renewals, and upgrades for hardware, software, and firmware versions of field devices and network system hardware, ensuring platforms are secure and up to date.
- System Testing & Compliance: Designs and executes test procedures to confirm control system functionality, including ensuring compliance with safety requirements.
- Control System Development: Recommends control system architecture, products, components, and applications used in manufacturing processes. Identifies and resolves system integration and interface issues.
- Data Integrity & Reporting: Ensures the integrity of process data collection. Manages and configures process-related reports as requested, extracting operational and compliance data from field instrumentation, verifying data accuracy, and distributing it appropriately.
- Capital Improvement Projects: Assists Engineering and other departments in planning and executing capital improvement projects involving PLC-related systems, modifications, and enhancements. Participates in workshops, reviews technical specifications, and assesses implementation schedules and workflows.
- PLC Software Lifecycle Management: Oversees the PLC software lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, unit/integration testing, maintenance, and user support, including documentation and training as required.
- Technical Documentation & Collaboration: Reviews and maintains electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls drawings and procedures. Collaborates with engineering teams to evaluate components, materials, and suppliers.
- Cross-Functional Support: Provides technical assistance to manufacturing, process, and other engineering disciplines by addressing questions and requests.
- Continuous Improvement: Drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance profitability, reduce scrap and waste, and minimize downtime.
- Leadership & Mentoring: Provides guidance, leadership, and training to experienced controls personnel, fostering skill development and professional growth.
- Other Duties: Performs all other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. This position may occasionally require extended hours and/or weekend work.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education, Skills, And Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology, mechanical, industrial or similar), chemistry, data science, or computer science
- 6+ years of experience with industrial control systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and instrumentation
- Professional communication, technical writing skills. Procedures, work instructions
- Track record of leading and implementing continuous improvement, scrap reduction, and cost-out initiatives in a manufacturing facility
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex processing issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
- Master of Science degree in relevant engineering area (mechanical, electrical, manufacturing or equivalent).
- Ability to read and understand process documentation including Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, functional flow schematics, hydraulics and control logic descriptions.
- Ability to clearly communicate and document programs and functional flows such that it is understandable by peers and can be used in debug and trouble shooting.
- Ability to integrate multiple pieces of equipment or stations into a system
- Experience with hydraulic presses, valves, pumps and presses control principals and systems
- 5+ years of experience in the following areas: programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley, Keyence, IEC 61131-3), operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux), networks.
- Ability to implement and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, FactoryTalk, Ethernet I/O, IIoT, RS-232/422/485
- 1+ years of experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, Access, MS SQL) and database management tasks, including, but not limited to schema design/implementation, scripting (e.g., PL/SQL, stored procedures) and schema-level troubleshooting
- 3-5 years process engineering experience within compression molding, robotic trimming and bonding cells processes
- Experience with process improvement tools and methodologies such as Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping.
- Professional certification in related engineering areas.
- Solid understanding of quality management systems and workflows, such as ISO standards, IATF.
