Job Description

Research Associate – R&D Manufacturing

About Thintronics®

More Data. Faster.

Global data volume traffic has been growing exponentially. The onset of AI applications is expected to make this worse. New insulator technology that enables higher frequency data transmission at lower power consumption is required to scale AI infrastructure, starting with the data center fabric. By synthesizing expertise in bottom-up Molecular Design, Computational Mechanics, and Electrical Engineering, Thintronics is unifying and optimizing the high-speed interconnect insulator, from silicon-to-system, enabling the highest data rates at the lowest power.

Thintronics is a start-up company located in Alameda, CA. We are a team of chemists, materials scientists, and engineers shaping the future of data and devices. We offer an exciting start-up environment at the interface of R&D, machine learning-aided product design, manufacturing, and rapid market implementation.

Job Role – Who We Want

Thintronics is looking for a detail-oriented and enthusiastic research associate to join our manufacturing team. This role focuses on designing and executing experiments on manufacturing equipment (material handling, coating and converting line), and characterization at every stage of the processing. In this position, you will work closely with R&D to deepen our understanding of the core Thintronics technology and develop the manufacturing process of our products.

As part of a start-up team, you will wear many hats. We are looking for someone with a “can-do” attitude, who is excited about the opportunity to develop a broad range of practical skills and is enthusiastic about their own exploration. Roles and responsibilities are collaborative and may evolve based on the needs of our quickly growing company as well as your skillset/interests.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline
  • Rigorous attention to detail with experimental design, execution, and recordkeeping
  • Strong analytical, organizational, teamwork, and time management skills
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks efficiently whilst ensuring safety remains a top priority
  • Must be able to move up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating or maintaining R&D or manufacturing equipment including pumps, mixers, dispersers, coaters, converters, slitters, and sheeters
  • Experience with slot-die coaters or any other wet coating machines
  • 1–5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with polymers and flammable solvents
  • Preference will go to local candidates

Level of research associate (I, II, III) will depend on overall qualifications and years of experience.

Compensation/Benefits

  • Competitive Bay Area salary
  • 100% employee coverage for Health/Vision/Dental Insurance
  • Unlimited PTO policy + Company Holidays
  • Equity/Stock Options
