OverviewPosition Summary:Responsible for obtaining and computing data relevant to measuring the Earth's features. This position will develop an understanding of the construction layout, conduct topographic analysis, and capture static measurements using best practices and standard operating procedures. The Survey Tech will be responsible for comprehension of various GNSS correction methods, equipment configurations, and equipment maintenance. ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions:Collect field data using sophisticated measuring equipmentCollaborate with project team to understand construction sequenceApply the use of GPS equipment to set lath for construction, this included center and offsets while having the ability to field fit miscellaneous itemsOperate survey instruments to capture static measurements for a variety of disciplines with verified horizontal and vertical residuals from client provided benchmarksPerform calculations to determine accurate elevations, distances, and angles for various construction projectsRecord survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawing, sketches, etc.Verify horizontal and vertical residuals daily using client provided benchmarksSearch for section corners, property states and survey pointPosition and hold the vertical rods or targets used for sighting to measure angles, distances, elevations, etc.Maintain and troubleshoot all GPS equipment as directed by Survey Equipment teamEnsure equipment and tools are clean, properly powered down, and stored at the end of the business daySafely operate field tools and supplies to minimize the risk of injury and property damageFoster effective communication between surveying teams, engineering teams, and project managementCollaborate with engineering and construction teams to integrate survey data into project plansProvide regular updates on surveying progress, challenges, and solutions to site and office managementWork independently and as an active member of the teamMentor and serve as the subject matter expert for Survey Technician I & IIsOther duties as assigned QualificationsRequirementsEducation and Work Experience Requirements:Associates or Bachelor's degree in surveying, remote sensing, drafting, engineering, or related technical fieldThree to four years of survey experience in construction or operations with exposure to engineering, civil, or renewable energy activitiesKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Effective verbal and written communicationComputer literacy and well-developed file managementAdvanced comprehension of ALTA Surveys, and various schematicsProficient knowledge of surveying software e.g. Trimble Business Center, MAGNET Office, or Civil 3DAbility to problem solveRead and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsCommon sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral formAbility to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standardsAbility to mentor and influence other survey team membersKnowledge of all survey disciplinesAbility to interpret and analyze schematicsBasic electrical knowledgeWorking Environment:Regularly exposed to outside weather conditionsFrequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and extreme heatOccasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibrationNoise level in the work environment is usually loudMasTec, Inc. is an equal employment opportunity employer.
