Surgical Pathologist/Cytopathologist
Mission or Goal of Unit:
Our mission is to provide high-quality, cost-effective pathology services in a manner that supports the patient care, education, and research missions of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and School of Medicine.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System seeks a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience, non-tenure track, in the Division of Anatomic Pathology, with primary duties in Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology.
Position Responsibilities:

Clinical : Responsible for day-to-day sign-out of cases in an academic Surgical Pathology and Cytopathology practice. The surgical pathology service encounters a wide variety of neoplastic and inflammatory conditions.

Service : Participation in tumor boards and other conferences with clinical colleagues is required. Participation in departmental, institutional and national committees when necessary.

Teaching : Participation in the educational activities of Anatomic Pathology: (1) didactic presentations, rounds, and seminars involving residents, medical and graduate students, and dental and allied health students; (2) continuing education for faculty, nurses, allied health personnel, and community physicians; and (3) development of workshops at the local, state, and national level.

Research : Scholarship primarily in Pathology through presentations at national meetings, developing clinical research collaborations, contributions to peer-reviewed scientific literature, and active participation in appropriate professional organizations is required.
• The faculty member will report to and work closely with the Division Chair to further the mission and vision of the Department of Pathology.
Required Qualifications:
• MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree
• Board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Pathology in combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Anatomic Pathology only
• A scholarly record of publication in books and peer-reviewed journals, and presentations at national meetings
• Full, unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
• Clinical experience and/or fellowship training in Breast and/or Pulmonary (neoplastic and non-neoplastic) pathology
• Board eligibility/certification in cytopathology
