GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Vocational Day Care Nurse is responsible for the overall coordination of health care services of clients participating in the Day Care and Work Activities Programs of the Vocational Day Care Center.

Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the individuals served.

Type of supervision exercised: Full. Jobs reporting to this position: LPN (1).

EDUCATION:

Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program with current registration and licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

One (1) year nursing experience and working with aging adults and adults with functional impairments is required.

SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Sight, hearing, and speech sufficient to effectively communicate with clients.

Must pass post job offer, pre-placement and bi-annual physical examination with annual communicable disease screening, and child abuse criminal background check.

Must possess a current Pennsylvania nursing license.

Administers medication as ordered by physician including oral, topical and parenteral when necessary. Insuring that the orders are current and on file.

Observes the condition of clients, reports these observations to the responsible living unit, nursing service, community agency, family members and takes appropriate action as prescribed.

Performs the duties of the Health and Safety Nurse regarding incident/accident reports, staff physicals and other safety related corporate issues.

Coordinates and implements the health related plans outlined by each Individual Program Plan.

Participates in and provides in-service training and education particularly in regard to CPR- First aid and other medical related issues.

Performs the duties of a Developmental Assistant in the absence of direct care staff and/or when programmatically indicated.

Maintains accurate medical records and instructs personnel in same in both the Work Activities and Day Care Programs.

Administers PRN medications as ordered by the physician in accordance with established medical procedures.

Attends inter-disciplinary team meeting and other staff meetings as circumstances indicate.

With the Program Director performs a periodic review of the Day Care and Work Activities programs to evaluate their health-related effectiveness

Provides individual support, instruction and direction for clients as the situation warrants.

Provides assistance in the management of disruptive clients and implementation of behavioral management plans

Provides orientation to new staff members and retraining to all staff members in areas including but not limited to: A. Detecting signs of illness or dysfunction that warrant medical intervention; B. Basic skills required to meet health needs and problems of the clients; C. First aid in the presence of accident or illness; D. Prevention of communicable disease.
