Maintenance Mechanic

Job Purpose :

• Perform, plan, and manage repairs and upgrades related to mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Assess material and labor needs for projects and repairs, procure necessary equipment/tools, and complete planned maintenance work.
• Liaise with departments, faculty, staff, physical plant management, and outside contractors.
• May involve driving a vehicle for work tasks.

Skills & Qualifications :

• Prior experience in facility maintenance is preferred.
• Experience in forklift and/or conveyor repair is beneficial.
• Knowledge of Siemens or Allen Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) is a plus, but not required.
• Additional experience in carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and welding is advantageous.
• Electrical Trade-Specific Skills :
  • Replace motors, switches, and wires.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment, relays, and AC/DC motors.
  • Troubleshoot control devices (input/output).
  • Work with 3-phase electrical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, manuals, and instructions.
  • Use tools and meters for electrical tasks (e.g., for conduit running and pipe bending).
  • Knowledge of NEC (National Electrical Code) is a plus.
  • Experience with electrical systems up to 480v is desired.

Requirements :

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Basic PC skills.
• Physically capable of performing heavy lifting.
• Availability for regular overtime.

Working Conditions :

• Primarily indoors, but some outdoor work in extreme temperatures may be required.
• Exposure to noise, vibration, and mechanical/electrical risks.
• Potential exposure to fumes, odors, and other irritants that may affect respiration or skin.

This position requires a well-rounded skill set in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, along with the ability to troubleshoot and work with advanced electrical systems and tools.
