POSITION SUMMARY
Supervise and coordinate the activities of the production employees and production engineer. Assist Site Manager with plant operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Enforce safety, environmental, and quality regulations. Maintain high standards for regulatory compliance and stay abreast of industry trends as well as areas of governing body emphasis.
Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged in the production of products. Responsible for goal setting and performance feedback for production employees. Establish performance goals for operations group that includes productivity, safety, and quality metrics. Confer with other managers and supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments. Plan and establish work schedules and assignments to meet production goals. Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances in accordance with established corporate policies. Recommend personnel actions such as hiring and promotions.
Coordinate daily production huddle and daily training huddle and ensure that all safe behaviors are enforced. Participate in safety investigations and ensure that action items from the safety investigations are completed to allow the production group to maintain safe operations
Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the plant’s capabilities, process chemistries, unit operations, support utilities and lab analytics
Lead the process optimization process, drive continuous improvement, track the progress and establish production efficiency goals. Perform routine reviews on all existing process master batch records and operations procedures. Work with production chemists and quality assurance to maintain and continuously improve master production batch records for all new processes. Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency. Maintain production cycle times. Maintain operations data such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports of production results.
Coordinate with Site Manager, Maintenance Manager, Technical Manager, and Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that materials, products, or equipment with defects or malfunctions are corrected. Ensure that quality investigations occur, track actions to completion and hold operators accountable to all quality practices. Ensure compliance with required cGMP standards.
Train operators in production environment to operate equipment and handle chemicals safely. Teach/Train personnel in the process chemistries and expected outcomes/results. Continuously improve the established training program for new and existing operations employees that includes all areas of required job skills. Ensure that all production equipment has standard operating procedures that are trained on.
Ensure that PSM regulations are in place and maintained (engineering drawings, employee participation training, necessary sections on the operations procedures, training every 3 years with the operators on all PSM procedures, P&IDs accurate).
Responsible to determine production capital project priorities, justify project paybacks and ensure successful completion of capital projects with manufacturing as the owner. Ensure that operation procedures are in place and operators are trained on all equipment. Serve or oversee the process engineer to serve as the manufacturing representative for all capital projects. Responsible that capital projects meet the needs to production from a scope and timeline standpoint.
Plan and develop new products and production processes to support continuous growth.
Maintain and develop future production budgets. Help the sales group establish pricing models based on process yields, batch cycle times, and cleaning cycle times.
Serve as a backup incident commander to the Site Manager in the event of a catastrophic event.
Maintain a positive culture that is reflective of ownership’s core principles and values.
Must establish strong working relationship with other support departments to ensure good communication and timely problem resolution.
Show strong leadership skills in team development both within the operations group and between the operations group and other departments.
Represent the operations group in customer quality and safety audits as well as government regulatory compliance inspections.
Expected to be on call during weekends and off hours to support production in solving problems that may be encountered.
Oversee the commercialization of new processes introduced to the plant including manpower requirements, procedures, planning etc.
Represent operations in new business evaluations including capital investment design, safety, and technology transfer reviews.
Education
BS in Chemical Engineering or other engineering or BS Chemist
Experience
Recommended five or more years manufacturing experience
Recommended five or more years manufacturing supervisory experience
Recommended five or more years of experience in an ISO 9001, food/GLP/GMP regulated process manufacturing environment
Recommended eight or more years of experience in at least two operations functional areas, e.g. Production, Logistics
