Ceramic Engineer at KOHLER summary:

The Ceramic Engineer is responsible for testing and controlling in-coming and in-process raw materials, ensuring compliance with established specifications and optimizing manufacturing processes. This role involves monitoring production, conducting technical analyses, and recommending improvements while maintaining technical documentation and participating in project assignments. Frequent travel between facilities in Brownwood, TX and Kohler, WI is required to support various projects and operations within the Vitreous China Manufacturing Industry.

Work Mode: Onsite

Location: Onsite - Based in Brownwood, TX but will require frequent travel to Kohler, WI

Opportunity

Supporting both Brownwood and Wisconsin Vitreous this position is responsible for the testing and control of in-coming and in-process raw materials in accordance with established quantity and technical specifications to insure optimum results. Requires knowledge of slip, glaze, mold and kiln technology. Monitors and analyzes all the technical phases of the manufacturing process to insure optimum results. Solves technical related production problems causing respray and cull. Develops and recommends manufacturing improvements.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitors and analyzes the production, testing and adjustment of slip and glaze in process as compared to established quantity standards and technical specifications. Directs corrective changes within the scope of one's authority or recommends such modifications or changes as one believes necessary and reasonable to maintain optimum results.
  • Performs assigned projects that deal with slip, glaze, molds and kiln firing designed to result in recommendations to reduce costs, improve production results and/or increases production.
  • Continuously monitors reports on ware losses and production and recommends modifications or changes to maintain optimum efficiency.
  • Responsible for preparing and maintaining a technical manual defining the procedures for testing in-process and in-coming raw materials and other control tests performed by the laboratory.
  • Prepares and submits reports on assigned projects.
  • Investigates properties of new materials, including developing production resting programs for these materials.
  • Serves as the Brownwood Plant Coordinator with the Division Coordinator for new products, modifications and new colors. Identifies and analyzes manufacturing defect problems and recommends ware modifications for corrective action.
  • Maintains operating records necessary to control and analyze raw materials, slip and glaze properties.
  • Participates in developing departmental budgets.
  • Assists in formulation of departmental operating objectives that support plant objectives.
  • Assists in development and implementation of training program.
  • Maintains a familiarity with developments within the Vitreous China Manufacturing Industry.
  • In the absence of the Slip, Glaze, and Mold Foreman, he/she will be acting Foreman in these departments.
  • Is responsible for maintaining and assisting the maintenance of the ISO9000 procedure system in slip, glaze, lab and raw material and unload areas.
  • Performs additional projects as assigned by slip and glaze supervision.

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Ceramic Engineering or related field with a minimum of 2 to 4 years.
  • Position will require ongoing, frequent travel between the vitreous plants located in Brownwood, TX and Kohler, WI. Position will be primarily based in Brownwood.
