This is a role that requires expertise in investigations, performance management, and compliance. Reporting to the Senior Director of Employee Relations, this position will provide direct support to a large workforce across multiple sites in Brooklyn and Queens. The Director will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership teams, guiding them through complex ER matters, workplace policies, and legal considerations while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.Key Responsibilities
Investigations & Employee Relations:
Lead and manage complex workplace investigations, ensuring thorough documentation and compliance with legal and organizational policies.Provide coaching and strategic counsel to leadership on ER issues, including disciplinary actions, grievances, and conflict resolution.Draft critical HR documents, including separation notices and corrective action plans.Partner with leadership teams to ensure consistent application of workplace policies and best practices in decision-making.
Performance Management & Compliance:
Advise on policy violations, workplace standards, and employment law compliance at the local, state, and federal levels.Support leadership teams in addressing performance concerns, including the development of Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs).Conduct regular check-ins with site leaders to provide hands-on guidance on personnel matters.Offer weekly office hours for staff to address ER-related concerns.
Accommodations & Leave Management:
Manage ADA accommodation requests through an interactive process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.Support medical leave administration, ensuring alignment with internal policies and external legal mandates.Assist with workers' compensation cases as needed.
Training & Leadership Development:
Assess trends in ER cases to identify training needs and proactively address gaps.Lead training sessions for managers and site leaders on handling ER issues effectively and maintaining compliance.
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role requires an experienced Employee Relations professional who is confident in leading investigations, advising leadership, and navigating complex HR challenges. The ideal candidate will have:5+ years of experience in Employee Relations, HR compliance, or a related fieldProven expertise in handling investigations, performance management, and policy enforcementStrong knowledge of employment laws and workplace regulations, particularly in New YorkThe ability to coach, influence, and guide leaders-especially those new to managementExperience in multi-site work environments, managing a high volume of ER casesExcellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skillsWork Environment & Schedule
