Job Summary: The Manufacturing Production Planner is responsible for all the analysis and planning necessary for timely manufacturing of finished goods to achieve H-E-B's customer service goals, planned inventory levels, and efficient utilization of available capacity.
Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities; other duties may be assigned
Management / Project Management:
- Achieves target customer service levels and inventory turn levels based on forecast error and bias trends, manufacturing capacity / flexibility, and customer service and inventory turn goals; monitors regularly
- Advises Warehousing and Transportation regarding production schedule adjustments and special distribution requirements
- Monitors and identifies scheduling issues; revises and acknowledges ship dates to meet production requirements
- Coordinates raw inbound material with production plan, utilizing current and future forecasting tools
- Provides daily-bucketed schedules by SKU, and installs production compliance metrics to measure performance
- Recommends special work-around plans and schedules, to include unforeseen events
- Provides Forecast and Replenishment with projections and schedule attainment updates daily and weekly
- Reviews monthly sales forecasts provided by Forecast and Replenishment; monitors monthly sales forecasts to projections
- Identifies materials with no further use; recommends disposition
- Keeps up to date on issues related to Sales Forecast, Manufacturing, Planning, New Product introductions, Line Fill Rates, Metrics, and other related Supply Chain issues
- Plans and controls all scheduling activities; balances production and inventory levels with demand to support target consistent with 100% customer service levels, project costs, inventory turn goals, and capacity utilization / staffing requirements
- Ensures timely production, using planning rules / modifiers to drive manufacturing software
- Works closely with Marketing and Business Development Manager production schedules for finished goods and component items based on capacity requirements; calculates resulting requirements for raw materials and packaging supplies based on MRP methodology
- Uses Capacity Planning tools to determine if production will be constrained in future periods; loads level-production plan, and identifies potential corrective actions such as scheduled overtime, equipment additions, outsourcing, or expediting
- Monitors the finished goods inventory; assigns priorities based on customer needs and production availability
- Leads and participates in continuous improvement efforts to enhance cost savings through material cost reductions, increased efficiency and productivity, and help implement processes and procedures to maximize results
- Participates on software design teams and leads site installation effort for new systems to eliminate the use of off-line spreadsheets and processes for scheduling
- Leads efforts to install standard processes for the Production Scheduling function in accordance with MRP methodology
- Reviews new product introductions and Promotion Calendar to ensure that Supply Chain can support all program requirements
- Exercises project leadership for new computer-based systems, in both selection and implementation processes; using software vendors and other users, learns the system(s) operations; coordinates pilot testing and conducts training programs for other users
- Facilitates communications within / between departments to provide information / data to ensure effective and timely results
- Interacts frequently with sales, marketing, and manufacturing Partners to balance supply and demand
- Resolves issues by presenting various alternatives for final decision
- Presents summary of key information at daily / weekly Production meetings
Analytics:
- Monitors production to ensure schedule is being met; assists maintenance planners / schedulers with production schedules
- Prepares requested analyses of inventory positions and schedule attainment / adherence
- Develops summaries for assigned product families and selected SKUs, including demand, inventory, and production data
- Publishes and performs root cause analyses on key metrics, including Customer Service Level, Actual vs. Scheduled Productions, and Master Schedule Stability
- Issues monthly updates of quarter-end inventory investment and turn projections for finished goods; provides unit and dollar value figures and analysis of significant changes
- Issues actual versus scheduled production metrics weekly; ensures that 95% compliance to schedule is achievable (Schedule Compliance Metric)
- Drafts and presents demand, production, and inventory summaries
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or related field, or comparable experience
- 2 - 5 years of experience in manufacturing
- APICS certification, or willingness to attain certification as soon as possible

Physical and Other Requirements
- Function in a fast-paced, retail, office environment
- Travel by car or plane with overnight stays
- Ambient temperatures range from -20F to 100+F; most often they are 65-85F
- Frequent lifting, climbing, with extended periods of standing and walking
- Out of town travel is normal but no more than 40% of work days
- Work extended hours
- Work rotating schedules
