Job Description
Whether your background is in data engineering, data architecture, or a related technical field, you can thrive in this role. As an internet-based company, we’re looking for someone with strong coding skills and a solid grasp of software engineering principles.

Specifically, we are looking for the following qualifications:

Experience using SSIS, Python, and Dagster to build and orchestrate ETL pipelines.

Experience using SQL or other query language to manage and process data.

Experience working with data from various sources and in various formats, including flat files, REST APIs, Hadoop File System, Excel files, JSON, XML, etc.

Experience with SQL Server, MongoDB, or related database technologies.

Preference for Agile product delivery.

Familiarity with GIT, Change Management, and application lifecycle management tools.

If you’re comfortable managing application lifecycles, navigating these tools and technologies, and influencing others without formal authority, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

About The Role:

As a Data Engineer at Veterans United Home Loans, you'd be building and keeping up data solutions that enhance the lives of your teammates and clients. You'll be diving into the mortgage and real estate world, helping veterans and service members get into their dream homes. We’re on the lookout for someone to join the team—whether in-person or remote from Columbia, MO. It’s a great chance to make an impact!

The pay for this role falls between $70,000 and $105,000, depending on your experience and skills.

Here’s a snapshot of what you’d be doing:

Creating and delivering functional ETL pipelines and other data solutions using core technologies like SQL, SSIS, Python and Dagster in an agile development environment. Applying sound database design principles and adhere to Clean Code practices.

Engaging in whole team planning, retrospectives, and communication. Interacting with Architects and Product Owners to translate requirements into actionable business logic.

Participating in proposing and adopting Engineering standards related to architectural considerations and non-functional requirements such as security, reliability, and stability. Ensuring proper management and visibility of borrower data and the life of a loan. Contributing to data governance initiatives.

Pitching in wherever needed (excluding licensed tasks) to help foster a supportive and collaborative team culture.

About You:

You thrive in an environment where your passion for data engineering shines through. You love seeing your hard work lead to meaningful results, helping business needs become reality.

You believe in showing up as your true self every day. Authenticity is key in building strong, trusting relationships. Your honesty is your superpower.

Change is your playground. You excel in dynamic settings, quickly adapting to new challenges and using your skills to achieve your goals in an ever-evolving landscape.

Your ability to connect with others through clear and confident communication sets you apart. You’re a natural at engaging with your team and stakeholders, ensuring everyone is on the same page and moving towards success.

High stakes and fast-paced environments energize you. You recognize the importance of supporting your team and clients efficiently, navigating complex tasks and processes with ease and enthusiasm.

Your analytical mind and strong problem-solving skills allow you to tackle any challenge that comes your way. You’re always looking for innovative solutions to enhance the lives of others.

About Us:

We’re all about helping Veterans and military families become homeowners. In two short decades, we closed over 500,000 VA Loans and became the #1 VA lender for homebuyers in the nation. We always strive to provide friendly service to military homebuyers and their families. And we always seek to lift up people and communities across the country.

We’re so glad you’re here checking out this opportunity! If this role gets you excited but you’re worried you don’t check every box – don't sweat it. We’re more interested in what you can bring to the team than a perfect checklist. If you’re passionate, driven, and ready to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Come as you are, and together we’ll create something amazing.
