The Physical Therapy Assistant provides patient care under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, assisting in treatment based on established plans. This role also involves maintaining departmental operations, equipment, and supplies while following safety protocols and procedures. Effective communication and the ability to work with potentially infectious patients in a physically demanding environment are essential.

Job Description

General Summary

  • Under general supervision performs patient care based upon treatment plan developed by a licensed Physical Therapist in accordance with the Maryland State Physical Therapy Practice Act.  Assists in the overall departmental operations with maintenance of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a curriculum approved by the American Physical Therapy Association for Physical Therapists Assistants.
  •  Licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners is required.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Ability to learn and practice appropriate safe work procedures and practice positive guest relations skills.
  • Ability to comply with policies and practices regarding safe handling of patients.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time while performing physical therapy support services.
  • Ability to work with patients possessing potentially infectious disease using the appropriate “Standard Precautions” and other safety procedures.
  • Effective verbal communication skills are required in order to work with patients and therapists successfully.

Working Conditions

  • Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required.
  • Work requires standing for extended periods of time while performing physical therapy support services.
  • There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious disease, requiring observance of “Standard Precautions” by wearing protective clothing and following safe work practices.
