Job Summary
AH Charge Nurse acts as lead person for nursing or nursing support personnel and is responsible for the operation of an assigned area for each shift, ensuring optimal patient care. The nurse plans, implements, and evaluates patient care, performing related duties as required.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Conducts Nurse Leader rounds to all patients in the assigned area, assessing nursing care and personnel status. Makes reassignments as necessary and provides assistance, teaching, or guidance when needed.
2. Gathers and assesses information about patients to meet their nursing needs. Assists and consults with physicians in procedures and diagnostic tests, contacting them to obtain or provide patient information.
3. Monitors the implementation of standards set by regulatory agencies, verifying administrative and personnel procedures are completed accurately. Interprets and implements policies, procedures, and regulations.
4. Oversees regular programs providing infection control, quality assurance, continuity of care, patient education, and coordination with other departments.
5. Promotes a healthy, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families, setting up and controlling the environment for infection control.
6. Facilitates cordial and productive communication among staff, patients, and family members, regularly communicating needs, problems, or suggestions to the immediate supervisor.
7. Completes Sentact Rounding as directed.
8. Completes the unit's daily charge nurse checklist.
9. May temporarily enter patient care in emergency situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduation from an accredited Nursing program is required; a Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred.
Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse II with AHS or equivalent experience in a large acute facility in the clinical area of application. (A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing may be substituted for one year of experience.)
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
- CCRN - Critical Care Registered Nurse (for Intensive Care Unit)
- CEN - Certified Emergency Nurse (for Emergency Department positions)
- PCCN - Progressive Care Nursing (Telemetry Department positions)
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (issued by AHA)
- BLS - Basic Life Support Certification (issued by American Heart Association)
- CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training (required for certain Emergency Department positions)
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (AHA)
