POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direct supervision of the Release of Information Manager, the Release of Information Medical Records Representative is responsible for clerical functions including Release of Information and Research & Review. Each of these functions maintains and distributes confidential health information, and follows strict confidentiality guidelines by discussing health information only in appropriate circumstances. Ensures health information is provided in a complete and timely manner, and contributes to the overall success of the Health Information Services Department. Complies with all Federal and State regulations and accrediting bodies, including but not limited to HIPAA, Joint Commission, and State, and promotes the University Health guest relations policy.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCEA high school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of some health information management courses, including medical terminology, computer technology and business-related courses, is preferred. Two years of general office experience is required. One (1) year of experience in Release of Information is preferred. One year of experience in a Health Information Department may be substituted for general office experience. Experience in a large healthcare facility is preferred.EQUIPMENTMust have knowledge of and familiarity with the operation of a computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and other equipment used in a health information department. Typing is required; 60 WPM is preferred. Experience in Windows-driven applications preferred.WORK CONDITIONSGenerally, works at a desk, table, cart or counter. Must stand, sit, and walk much of the work periods. Routinely required to stoop, reach, lift/push/pull loads up to 20 lbs. and work in confined areas. Occasionally, may be required to handle loads in excess of 20 lbs. using departmental equipment provided, i.e., carts, etc. Specific conditions, such as working at any of the University Health medical records sites (University Hospital, UHCD, UCCH) and/or during weekends, holidays or other non-peak hours, may vary from time to time depending upon the needs of the employing department.
