Position Description
The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University seeks applications for a half-time Lecturer in Assyriology. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2025. The position is for one year, half-time (0.5 FTE).
The lecturer will be responsible for developing and teaching two courses per academic year on the undergraduate and graduate levels. They will also participate in curricular development, and training and supervising teaching fellows.
Basic Qualifications
The successful applicant should hold a doctorate or terminal degree in Assyriology or another field appropriate to the position by the time the appointment begins.
Additional Qualifications
Experience in teaching Assyriology courses at all levels, including Akkadian and Sumerian (elementary to advanced, grammar and text-based), historical and cultural surveys, and topic-focused seminars. We seek a lecturer dedicated to imparting the rigorous language skills that will support our students in their research as well as to furthering our broader student body's interest in Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies more generally. Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching is desired.
