LAKELAND UNIVERSITY, an independent liberal arts institution located in east central Wisconsin, invites applications from a diverse group of qualified candidates for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Chemistry, to begin August 2025.
The successful candidate will be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate chemistry courses, including general chemistry, introductory and advanced organic chemistry, analytical chemistry (including instrumentation), and introductory thermodynamics and kinetics. Preferred applicants will also be able to teach physical chemistry, cellular biochemistry, and/or metabolic biochemistry. Candidates with an interest in undergraduate research and in promoting programs in the sciences are particularly encouraged to apply. Our institution maintains a large array of modern instrumentation resources, including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in our research and teaching laboratories.
This is a full-time, renewable, tenure-track position with a 24-credit teaching load expectation and nine-month contract. A willingness to participate in Lakeland's undergraduate summer research program, accompanied by a reduction in nine-month teaching load, is highly desired. A doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field is required for the rank of assistant professor and for tenure. ABD applicants may be considered, provided degree conferral is before start date. The ideal candidate will have taught at the undergraduate level and have experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Teach 24 credits per academic year, including in the Interdisciplinary Studies core classes when teaching load allows.
- Advise students as assigned.
- Coordinate and supervise student internship and/or cooperative education experiences appropriate for chemistry majors including the Chemical Technician workshop.
- Act as course concierge; identify and approve textbook, conduct program reviews, propose curricular changes, manage budgets and supplies for classes assigned.
- Work with the school chair and deans to identify appropriate adjunct instructors for chemistry program when needed
- Participate in educational assessment activities.
- Hold regular office hours weekly.
- Respond promptly to communication from students, colleagues, or supervisors.
- Participate in institutional service opportunities as assigned.
- Use university technology as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS - Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field is required for rank of assistant professor and for tenure.
- Successful teaching experience in higher education with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities is preferred.
