Job Description
Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Nyman Associates is seeking compassionate, self-directed, and organized individuals to support students with vision needs and/or blindness.
Position Summary: As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), you will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with blindness or visual impairments, assessing their needs, developing appropriate learning materials, teaching Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and adapting classroom environments to ensure accessibility, all while collaborating with general education teachers and parents to promote student inclusion and success
Responsibilities:
  • Provide itinerant vision related education services
  • Be a critical member to the IEP team, including writing goals and maintaining progress monitoring
  • Perform functions such as Braille instruction, functional vision and learning media assessments
  • Adapting curriculum and classroom materials
  • Plan and implement educational lessons to address educational needs by accommodating for the specific eye condition
  • Keep accurate records and data to reflect student progress and provide mandated reports to schools and families
  • Acquire and deliver books, adaptive equipment, and administer appropriate assessments to students and write reports with recommendations
  • Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, and families to provide integrated services that meet the child's visual needs

Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments or blindness
