Job Description
Position Description:
  • The Itinerant Teacher of Gifted/Talented is responsible for providing gifted or talented services to qualifying students per the student's IEP.
Scope of Responsibility:
  • Develops an appropriate curriculum in order to meet the needs of each G/T student as dictated by the IEP.
  • Completes accurately and on time all IEPs, progress reports, service logs and any other required documentation.
  • Writes/facilitates IEPs for G/T students.
  • Creates an aesthetic environment in which students can develop their individual talents. When applicable, provides opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents to appropriate audiences.
  • Participates in annual exhibits/performances sponsored by the G/T department.
  • Screens students for possible G/T eligibility.
  • Ability to travel to multiple school sites.
  • Attends all required professional developments.
  • Utilizes the high-quality curriculum that is being implemented by the district as applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Gifted/Talented, ESY, Assistive Technology Coordinator.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • We seek detail-oriented, independent self-starters who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to raising student achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations.
Successful candidates will also demonstrate:
  • Bachelor's degree and a valid Louisiana teaching certificate or Ancillary certification in gifted, talent music, visual arts or drama.
  • Master's degree (gifted teachers).
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Power Point and Google Suite.
  • Knowledge of the Individualized Education Process.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and recommendations.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree.
Physical Involvement:
  • Must be able to operate office equipment.
  • Standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 10 pounds is required.
